Details

A well known bottle producer who provides about 2 billion plastic bottles a year to the dairy industry, has unveiled the new Infini bottle.

The key objective in designing the bottle was to reduce the weight of materials used in its production without affecting the bottle’s integrity and its requirement to be ‘fit for purpose’.

This has been achieved thanks to a new octagonal structure that allows the walls of the bottle to be thinned.. In reducing the distance to the corners of the bottle there is a considerable reduction in the weight of the material required. Compared to the previous design, the new bottle offers an average weight saving across the one to four pint and two litre formats of 15 per cent. And the six-pint bottle promises a 21 per cent reduction in weight.

A further important element of the innovative design is the positioning of the handle at a corner edge of the bottle. Stored in the door of the fridge, the handle can therefore be positioned facing outwards making it easier for the consumer to remove the bottle.

The bottle was developed by Nampac and branded "The Infini bottle"

Potential Benefits

The main benefit of this innovation is in reducing the amount of packaging materials employed with a consequent reduction in manufacturing costs and C02 impact.

Intellectual Property

Infini is a Nampak led initiative, designed by the innovation team at Nampak and the design is fully protected by relevant patents and design registration
