Details

WineLoc protective wine shippers are made with 60% recycled-content expanded polystyrene (EPS). The WineLoc packaging uses EcoSix, a recycled molding bead by RAPAC.
There are various sizes and configurations available of the packaging system available.  The product has been available in the US market place for the past two years, but during 2010 the manufacturers shifted from virgin EPS to EcoSix, an EPS resin composed of 60% industrial and consumer scrap.  The balance is virgin EPS.  The material has the same look and functionality as virgin EPS but is certified as having EcoSix content.
This product has proved popular and ACH works closely with customers to ensure that the product and its benefits are marketed down-stream.  "We want to be sure that each person who is in contact with the product is aware of the material orgins and benefits", explained a company spokesperson.

Potential Benefits

As well as creating a market for recycled EPS material, the high-performance protection value of EPS helps to reduce supply chain waste of goods broken or damaged during shipping and handling.

The manufacturers also claim that the packaging system has considerable weight advantages when compared against equivalent paper based packs. According to ACH, the use of these recycled-content wine shipping containers has reduced the quantity of material introduced into the supply chain by total actual weight of 240,000-lbs annually in the US.

The product also features insulating qualities that protect perishables and fine wines during transit.

Intellectual Property

WineLoc is a proprietary design of wine bottle packaging developed and manufactured by ACH Foam Technologies and marketed by the company WineLoc Packaging Products.

Consultant View

This pack could be particularly interesting for home delivery wine retailers, and could lend itself well to a returnable system as used by some organic food delivery retailers.
