A well known stretch film manufacturer has developed a new ultra light-weight stretch wrap for machine wrapping operations which offers a 10-20% reduction in material from other alternative films and is still capable of pre-stretching by up to 300% in use.
 
The company has developed a five-layer, cast metallocene formulation which enables the resulting film to be thinner gauge than comparable films whilst retaining the same mechanical properties.  The company believes that the new films have the highest force-to-weight ratio of any stretch films currently available on the market.
 
The new REDUCER™ films are proprietry to ITWMuller the manufacturer.

Potential Benefits

The primary benefit of this technology is in material reduction through light-weighting of the resulting stretch film. Additionally, there should be a corresponding reduction in waste packaging at the end of the packaging life cycle. There is currently much work being undertaken by film manufacturers to reduce material use via careful resin formulations and it is likely that this will result in further lightweighting and stretch film material reduction overtime.

There has been continuous improvement in the manufacture of stretch films over the last five years as new resin formulations have become available enabling light-weighting of films.  This product represents a further step in achieving material reduction whilst maintaining mechanical strength of the resulting film.
